Let’s face it, December can feel like a full-time job.

You're juggling gift shopping, school plays, icy roads, last-minute deadlines, and a fridge full of mince pies... all while trying to stay on top of your fitness and nutrition.

But here's the truth: you can enjoy Christmas without falling into the "fuck it" mindset.

You can protect your energy, maintain your progress, and actually feel proud of how you show up this festive season.

This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about going in with a plan.

And I’ve got one for you.

🎯 What’s the Goal?

Let’s get one thing clear: the goal in December isn’t to make massive progress.

It’s to protect the progress you’ve already made.

This is the time to shift focus from fat loss or strength gains to maintenance and consistency.

Because let’s be honest… what usually ruins your momentum isn’t Christmas Day, it’s the two weeks of chaos either side of it when everything goes out the window.

🚨 The Real Problem: “What’s the Point?”

Ever found yourself thinking...

“There’s no point starting now, I’ve got X, Y, Z coming up.”
“I’ll just wait until January.”

Here’s the problem with that thinking: it turns one or two days of indulgence into an entire month of going backwards.

Progress isn’t lost because of Christmas.

It’s lost because we press pause and tell ourselves we’ll deal with it later.

But guess what? You don’t need to pause.

You just need a strategy that matches the season.

🎄 The 5-Part Christmas Strategy

Here’s your game plan for staying on track and enjoying the holidays:

1. Pick Your Battles

You don’t need to track every mouthful or skip every celebration. But be strategic.

✅ Choose the events or meals that truly matter to you

❌ Don’t fall into “all or nothing” because you had a few indulgences

🎅 “I’m having a big Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day feast, so I’ll aim to be more mindful the rest of the week.”

2. Simplify the Weekdays

On the days that aren’t Christmas parties or festive blowouts, keep things simple.

Stick to your usual meals, routines, and movement where possible. This keeps you grounded and gives your body what it needs.

🎁 “Monday to Friday? Just like a normal week. I’m walking, eating well, and getting to the gym if I can.”

3. Set Minimum Standards

Perfection? Not happening. But consistency? That’s doable.

Set a minimum baseline:

  • 6,000 steps per day

  • 2 workouts per week

  • A daily veg target

  • Protein with 2 meals a day

It’s not flashy—but it keeps you ticking over.

4. Control the Controllables

You can’t change that your aunt makes an epic trifle. You can decide whether you eat the whole bowl.

Focus on:

  • What’s in your house

  • What you pack for work

  • How often you walk

  • What you do between meals

🍽️ “Christmas dinner is one meal. It doesn’t have to turn into a 10-day binge.”

5. Start 2024 With Momentum

Here’s the goal:

  • You don’t start January in panic mode

  • You’ve protected your energy

  • You haven’t undone months of hard work

  • You feel good, not guilty

Because the best way to start strong in the New Year... is not to stop completely now.

💥 Final Thought

You don’t need to restrict yourself this Christmas.

But you also don’t need to fall off the wagon and run yourself into the ground either.

There’s a middle ground, and it’s powerful.

It’s called making a Merry Christmas Masterplan.

Let’s finish the year strong, not stressed.
