Why That’s Not Laziness, and What to Do Instead

“I know what to do… I’m just not doing it.”

If that sentence has been bouncing around your head lately, you’re not alone.

It’s one of the most common things I hear from new clients, and it’s usually said with a mix of guilt, shame, and a wee bit of frustration.

Here’s the thing:

You’re not broken. You’re not lazy. You’re not undisciplined.

You’re just trying to force actions that don’t fit your current energy, headspace, or lifestyle.

Let’s break that down, and I’ll show you how my clients go from “knowing but not doing” to doing without burning out.

This Isn’t a Motivation Problem

Most people think they’re just not trying hard enough.

So they double down on effort, guilt themselves into action, and maybe even get a week or two of perfect meals and gym sessions.

But it never lasts.

Because it was never a motivation issue to begin with.

It was a standards and system issue.

Motivation is fleeting.

Standards are the promises you make to yourself, the kind that actually match your real life.

So Why Aren’t You Doing It?

Let’s get brutally honest (without being a dick):

  • You’re knackered.

  • You’re overloaded with decision fatigue.

  • You’ve got 29 tabs open in your brain at all times.

  • And the things you’re telling yourself to do? They feel like a burden, not a boost.

That’s not a failure of willpower. That’s just life. If you’re trying to follow a perfect plan with zero margin for chaos, of course you’re not doing it.

It’s not doable in the first place.

The Fix: Lower the Barrier, Raise the Standard

It’s not about doing less. It’s about doing what actually fits, then raising the standard once the habit exists.

Here’s what that might look like:

  • You stop telling yourself to “go to the gym 4x a week” and start with “I’ll move for 15 minutes today.”

  • You quit trying to “track every calorie” and instead commit to “eating protein with lunch and dinner.”

  • You stop chasing perfect days and start building consistent minimums that feel manageable, even on your worst day.

That’s what we build in Body For Life.

That’s how results get relentless, by doing what actually works for you, not what sounds impressive on paper.

Real Talk: You Don’t Need Another Plan

You’ve probably done Slimming World, MyFitnessPal, some bro split workout you found on Instagram, and half a dozen random 6-week challenges.

But none of them taught you how to:

✅ Work with your real-life energy

✅ Adapt when sh*t hits the fan

✅ Create standards that you actually believe in

That’s what I do.

That’s why my clients don’t just “try again.”

They become someone who doesn’t need to restart anymore.

Bottom Line: Knowing Isn’t the Problem

The problem is trying to do things that don’t suit the reality of your life right now.

And the solution isn’t more guilt or motivation.

It’s standards. Simplicity. Systems.

That’s what we build in the Body For Life Academy, whether your goal is fat loss, energy, confidence moving your body, or just feeling more in control again.
